Dental Exams

Regular dental exams are an important part of long term and preventive dental health. During your exam, the hygienist and dentist work together as a team to identify gum inflammation, bone loss, dental decay, and oral cancer. Your dentist and hygienist will also check your face, neck, and mouth for any abnormalities and discuss any other issues you may be encountering.

Dental cleanings are an important part of long term oral health and hygiene. The process involves the removal of plaque and bacteria from the teeth and surrounding tissue to prevent dental decay, gingivitis, and periodontal disease.

There are varying degrees of cleanings that patients may need, from simple plaque removal and polish to deep scale and debridement. This depends on the location and amount of tarter build-up along with existing oral conditions.

Dental X-rays

Radiographs are an important part of proper dental treatment, diagnosis, and preventive care. The radiographs (or informally called "X-rays") are pictures of the teeth, bones and surrounding tissues of the oral cavity.

There are several different X-rays that the dentist uses including, periapical, bitewing, occlusal, and panoramic views.

The amount of radiation required for dental x-rays is very minimal, and even smaller when using digital radiographs like we do at Clearwater Dental.

Nitrous Oxide ("Laughing Gas")

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas" or "sweet air", is a chemical used in surgery and dentistry for its anesthetic and analgesic effects. It is administered through a small nose piece and is inhaled by the patient, in combination with oxygen, to help calm their nerves and relax.

Pediatric Dentistry (Children)

We see patients of all ages at Clearwater Dental, including small children. It is recommended that parents schedule their child’s first well check and cleaning by 2 years of age. This is an important time for learning proper home care and starting your child down the right road to a lifetime of good oral health.

We’ll also provide your child with any further dental treatment he or she may need, making sure they are comfortable and well taken care of!

A dental filling is a material used to restore the function and integrity of missing tooth structure. The structural loss typically results from decay or external trauma. There are two main types of filling materials used: amalgam (silver colored) and composite resin (tooth colored).

Crowns & Caps

A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth or there is a structural defect. They are typically bonded to the tooth using a dental cement.

Crowns can be made from many materials including porcelain, gold, or alloy.

A bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture, is a dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth by joining permanently to adjacent teeth or dental implants.

Root Canal Therapy

A procedure used to save an abscessed tooth in which the pulp chamber and nerve tissue is cleaned out, disinfected, and filled with a permanent filling.

This is the complete removal of a tooth from the mouth.

There are situations that arise where a tooth is considered non-restorable. This could be due to a fracture in the tooth, large amounts of decay, loss of support from the surrounding bone and tissue, or infection. If this is the case the tooth needs to be extracted.

Dentures are a removable replacement of artificial teeth for missing natural teeth and surrounding tissues. Two types of dentures are available, complete and partial.

Complete Dentures: used when all the teeth are missing.

Partial Dentures: used when some natural teeth remain.

Cosmetic Dentistry

There are a number of things that your dentist can do to help with the esthetics of your teeth. Using the materials available today, whether porcelain veneers or composite resin, most shade, size and shape discrepancies can be corrected to give you that bright white smile.

Invisalign works by straightening a patient’s teeth either for functional or esthetic purposes. Learn more about Invisalign retainers click here.

A dental implant is used to replace a missing tooth, either in the upper or lower jaw bone. It consists of a small, surgical titanium rod being placed in the appropriate area acting like the root of a tooth. After a certain amount of time and bone integration (usually between 4-6 months) a crown can be cemented over the implant, restoring the area and replacing the missing tooth completely.

Tooth Whitening

Tooth bleaching and whitening is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment which is used to change the color of natural tooth enamel, enhancing the esthetic look. There are many different methods and options available including bleach strips, bleach trays, or an in-office procedure.

Anti-Snoring Devices

An anti-snoring device is a small mouth piece that can be created by your dentist to help you stop snoring. The mechanics of the custom made device open the airways and lightly position the lower jaw more forward. They are flexible, thin, comfortable, and have exhibited documented clinical success in mitigating or even preventing the disruptive, unhealthy effects of snoring and sleep apnea.

Night Guard

A nightguard is a proactive step to protect your existing healthy teeth. They are clear, thin removable bite splints worn over your lower or upper teeth as you sleep. Studies suggest those who grind and clench their teeth may experience up to 80 times the normal tooth wear per day compared to those who do not. The good news is that a simple nightguard can offset the effects of this often-subconscious habit while protecting your teeth from daily wear and tear. They also help in relieving jaw pain consistent with TMJ problems.

Snap-On-Smile is a patented, easy and painless way to obtain a beautiful smile. It was invented by a dentist who realized that not everyone can afford thousands of dollars to get a Hollywood smile make-over. It fits right over your own teeth to give you a beautiful, natural looking smile—even if you have stains, chips, gaps, or missing teeth. Please visit www.snaponsmile.com for more information and great before and after pictures.

Home Care Education

During regular check-ups and cleaning appointments, a large effort is made to educate patients on the proper home care and maintenance of their oral health. This includes adequate brushing and flossing techniques along with an understanding of the risks and complications of not doing so.

A good amount of time will also be spent on topics such as diet and controllable risk factors that increase a patient’s likelihood of having dental complications.
